Two Years Since Obadiah was Born and Died: More Thoughts on Grief
Today is the second birthday of my seventh child, Obadiah Malachi. It’s also the 2nd anniversary of his death. As I previously wrote, it was the most grievous day of my life.
The past two years have seemed to move in slow motion. Each day is a trial. Each day presses me in some way. What used to be easy is now hard. Some things that were once difficult are now much easier.

My Lack of a Problem with G.K. Chesterton
Dr. George Grant recently posted the following story on his blog. On the off-chance you don’t visit his blog and read it directly, I’ll repost it here, but I encourage you to subscribe to his blog at your next convenience.
My friend James Sauer writes, “I’ve got a problem with Chesterton. The problem is that I think he is a wonderful, wise, witty, and pious man; after reading his works, I never leave the page without feeling edified.”
So, “Why is that a problem?” you just might ask.
Enthusiasm
Saw this great quote at WorkHappy.Net, by a man named Charles Kingsley:
“We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.”
I didn’t know who Charles Kingsley was so I went to Wikipedia and discovered he was an English novelist who wrote the novel Westward Ho! He died in 1875 so I thought that made the quote even more interesting. Apparently, there was enough people back during the 1800’s who were trying to keep up with the Jones’, that Kingsley felt the need to make this distinction about the proper direction to take in life. This was an attempt on his part to help his fellow man.
Search for Significance Seminar
If you’ve been thinking about the new year and some of those resolutions you’ve made, and if you live in the Brevard County area, what about considering your spiritual walk? If you are a Christian or read the Bible for inspiration, I can’t think of a better way to start the year out right then to attend a Search for Significance Seminar.
Andrew Peterson Concert with Derek Webb and Eric Peters
I haven’t gone to too many concerts in my life. I saw The Lettermen when I was a child in Saudi Arabia. I still remember it like it was yesterday - and I still love The Lettermen. I saw Bruce Hornsby and the Range in Orlando. I’ve seen a few other lessor acts. I saw a few hair bands at Hard Rock Station in Orlando. But all in all, I’m not a “concert guy”. Oddly, I’d love to go to see certain acts in concert, but for as much as I love music, you’d likely be surprised at how little interest in concerts I show. Maybe it is the people around me that leave me annoyed. Maybe it is poor sound production - which for an audiophile like me can be tough - especially after a few hours.
On Being a Christian
A few thoughts on being a Christian…
It seems that the idea of being a Christian would be to represent Christ accurately in all our words and behaviors. Sin, being what it is, gets in the way of this accuracy, no matter how great our love is for Christ.
Soooooo… if you are looking to me, or anyone else, to find out what being a Christian is all about, you might be in for a little disappointment. You might try, as an alternative, reading your Bible and you’ll likely find out much more than you will by judging those who claim to be Christians.
